African Biodiversity Conservation and Innovations Centre (ABCIC) in collaboration with Bioversity International successfully organized an inception workshop to kick start the project entitled “Linking genetic vulnerability to loss of resilience to adapt to climate change” in Nairobi, Kenya from 22nd- 24th January 2013. The major objective of the workshop was to bring together key project partners to discuss strategies and action plans for implementing the project. It was attended by representatives from Bioversity International, KARI/National Genebank of Kenya, TPRI/National Plant Genetic Resources Centre (Tanzania) and Sokoine University of Agriculture (Tanzania).
The workshop was officially opened by Dr. Carlo Fadda, Senior Scientist, Bioversity International and addressed by Dr. Dan Kiambi, Executive Director, ABCIC. On the 2nd day of the workshop, participants were trained on the use of GIS to select germplasm from genebanks and climate change modeling.
