The workshop was held at the Hillpark Hotel, Nairobi, Kenya from 31st October - 2nd November 2012.

The workshop was attended by project partners from ASARECA, ABCIC, ISAR, Kenyatta University, NARO/NAASRI, NARI, Mikocheni Agricultural Research Institute, Makerere University, NARI, and ARC.

The purpose of the project is to enhance the accessibility, availability and utilization of Striga resistant and drought tolerant sorghum lines in the drier parts of eastern Africa in order to increase productivity contributing to enhanced food security, sustainable livelihoods and poverty reduction of the rural poor in marginal areas. The success of the 1st Phase of the ASARECA funded project led to more than 150 Striga resistant marker introgression lines being available for evaluation and subsequent dissemination of the technologies in the east African region.
