A research team led by Dr. Dan Kiambi of ABCIC, has won the ASARECA research grants call 2014 after a competitive bidding process. The team's research concept note entitled “Harnessing plant genetic resources for agricultural productivity, resilience and sustainable livelihoods in ECA", was selected for development into a full research proposal for possible financing. The team will develop the concept note into a full project proposal in workshop to be held from 2nd to 6th June, 2014 at Imperial Resort Beach Hotel, Entebbe, Uganda. The proposal will subsequently be submitted to ASARECA for funding.
The team is comprised of researchers from ABCIC, National Museums of Kenya, National Agricultural Livestock Resources and Research Institute (NaLIRRI)-Uganda, National Forestry Resources Research Institute (NaFORRI)-Uganda, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST)-Kenya, AGT Laboratories-Uganda, Commission for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering National Centre for Research-Sudan, Kenyatta University-Kenya, Makerere University-Uganda, Rwanda Agricultural Board, National Semi-Arid Resources Research Institute-Uganda, ICRISAT and Bioversity International.
